Jonathan Surdej has spent the summer with Encorus as an electrical engineer intern. Jonathan worked on multiple projects at many different locations including the Canandaigua and Bath VA Medical Centers, and the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) site. Some of the new skills he learned during his time here were being able to understand and create one-line diagrams and cable and conduit schedules.  He says he also gained valuable experience in Auto CAD, Revit, SKM and visual lighting. He also needed to consider where engineering work meets construction with material take-offs and estimates.

Jonathan says he was thankful for the opportunity and the knowledge he gained during his internship. School has given him the foundation, but the engineers he had worked with here have taken it to the next level. He believes this internship solidified that he made the right choice in going into electrical engineering and pursuing this career. Encorus Group Electrical Engineer Geoff Chadwick had this to say about Jonathan’s time with us: “It was great to have Jonathan on our team this summer – his teamwork mentality and work ethic made him a pleasure to have in the office.  He was a showcase example for the value of internship programs – we got to share real world experience while he reminded us that the next generation of leaders & problem solvers will be there for us to count on in the years to come!”

Jonathan heads back to the University at Buffalo this fall to continue his education in electrical engineering. He is also continuing his time on the track and field team as a student athlete. Jonathan has won 4 MAC championships in the shot put and placed 40th in the east region this past year.
