For the protection of your facility against fire damage, fire sprinklers that work efficiently are vital. A properly functioning fire pump is a very important component of an effective sprinkler system. Whether you’re completing renovations to an existing building or you’re having a brand-new building constructed, it is important to ensure the fire pump within the sprinkler system is working effectively. The function of a fire pump within a sprinkler system is to supply the water to the sprinkler head. The water supplied by the fire pump allows the sprinklers to do their job of extinguishing the fire.

Encorus Group assisted the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona, PA with the design of a replacement fire pump and the associated piping. Upgrades were necessary in order to meet current codes and NFPA standards, ensuring that the facility remains safe for patients, staff, and visitors.

This design included evaluation of flow requirements for the facility, as well as NFPA requirements analysis to determine the appropriate size and pump configuration. The final design included a new 125 HP electric pump with secondary power supply and an additional 125 HP diesel pump. The project also included the design of integrated pump controls and mechanical tie-in to existing reservoir and site supply piping.
