Join us in welcoming Shane Reid, as he begins his role as Process Engineer. He brings over 17 years of engineering experience, and we are excited to have him join the team.
We asked Shane a couple of questions to get to know him better.
What led you to Encorus?
My motivation for joining Encorus is to be able to help the process team here in ways that my experience allows, as well as for learning what I am able to further support the team and help with growth where I can. When I interviewed, I also noticed that the team generally seems to like each other and get along well, which speaks volumes about the company beyond what people can say.
What are you most excited about as you start in your new position?
I am most excited about getting to work with a team that is engaged and working towards common goals, a team that can grind it out when they have to, but are also able to share a few laughs.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was younger there were a lot of different things I wanted to be, an astronaut was probably the main one of my childhood. As I got older, being a musician was my go to throughout my teenage years.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Two things that I most enjoy are homebrewing and writing, sometimes together.
Do you have any pets?
I have a dog and a cat. Our dog is a rescue and our cat came to us as an injured kitten when we purchased our house, so we had to keep her.
What is one thing you want people to know about you?
It will probably take me a while to get to know your name, I am terrible with names.
What is your favorite book or movie?
I would say my favorite books are the Silo Series by Hugh Howey, I believe this has since been made into a TV series but I haven’t watched that.
What was your favorite thing to do as a kid?
Skateboarding and Music.
Who was your favorite teacher in high school, and why?
My highschool history teacher, he encouraged us to think and not be afraid to do things differently. My friends and I once wrote a rock song instead of issuing a formal written report as an example.
If you could invite anyone who has ever existed to a dinner party, who would you invite?
I feel that Ben Franklin would be a good time. Though history is not a topic that I am very good with.
If you had to choose one food to take to a deserted island, what would it be?
I don’t really have a favorite food, I have two young kids and tend to eat whatever they will eat so that I don’t have to make multiple dinners. If I absolutely had to choose, it would probably be a mushroom and swiss cheeseburger.
