Alfred State College Hydrogen Code Review

Alfred, NY

Project Objective

This project’s objective was to evaluate the existing hydrogen fuel cell lab space at Alfred State College and determine code requirements necessary to bring the space into code compliance for the work performed.

Unique Project Features

The client desired to modify the existing space to meet additional requirements.

Encorus Group Solution

Encorus performed a site visit to evaluate the current construction of the existing space. Requirements from NFPA codes, NYS Building Code, and electrical codes were evaluated against the proposed use of the space. After evaluation, it was determined that constructing a new structure would be more cost effective than retrofitting the existing space due to safety requirements when utilizing hydrogen gas.

Specific Project Tasks

  • Site visits to evaluate current construction
  • Evaluation of NFPA codes, MYS Building codes, and electrical codes
  • Retrofit vs. new build recommendations to client based on findings
