Project Objective

he objective of this project was to expand the capacity for the management of spent deicing fluid at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport. This objective was achieved through expanding the available storage and treatment systems at the airport. The project’s scope included baseline review and analysis of existing systems, exploration of potential improvements to optimize the existing treatment system, power consumption and efficiency evaluation, treatment expansion, exploration of upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems, building expansion to facilitate potential system upgrades, storage expansion and integration upgrades, and outfall consolidation feasibility.

As a subconsultant to prime contractor WSP on this project, Encorus performed design of controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.

Specific Project Tasks

  • Design a fan to meet the flow requirements
  • Procure all components for delivery to fan manufacturer
  • Full factory test for all functions
  • Deliver and commission fan at client site
