Canandaigua VA Medical Center Brick-Mortar Repair Study

Canandaigua, NY

Project Objective

The client requested a complete analysis of the condition of the brick and mortar of fifteen buildings on the historic Canandaigua VA Medical Center Campus.

Unique Project Features

The majority of the buildings at this location were constructed in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The buildings were in various states of disrepair. Some areas were not accessible from the ground level, resulting in the need for laser scanning rather than visual inspection.

Encorus Group Solution

The Encorus Team performed visual inspection and laser scanning to assess each building, gathering information related to the likelihood of failing, risk to the building’s structural integrity, and to non-safety related risks. This information was then used to designate a priority level of low or high for repairs. The client was provided with a report detailing this information, as well as which specific areas were in need of repair, scope of repair vs. replacement, and cost estimates for each.

Specific Project Tasks

  • Visual inspection
  • Laser scanning to assist in identifying areas which were not accessible from ground level
  • Preparation of reports detailing the condition of each building and rating its level of criticality for repair or replacement
  • Preparation of cost estimates for repair vs. replacement of each problem area identified
