Parking Garage Tendon Break Inspection and Design, Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center

Columbus, OH

Project Objective

This project’s scope encompassed site visits and field investigations to inspect the condition of the existing post tensioned parking garage beam tendons in order to determine if damage exists, and, if so, its severity. Structural analysis of the post-tensioned member to confirm safe use and alternative repair methods/procedures with associated cost estimates were also part of the project scope. Water intrusion was suspected to be the main cause of the deficiencies, and a goal of the project was to eliminate both its cause and source.

Encorus Group Solution

Encorus Group provided on-site inspections to examine damaged girders, slabs, and beams, as well as documents related to previous construction. The investigation of the concrete beam included visual and non-destructive examination. Following the evaluation, a comprehensive written report was prepared, identifying the damage and its effects on the current structure as-is, as what the long-term effects could be if it were not properly repaired and a necessary timeframe within which repairs must be completed. This report also included the description of multiple potential repair options. An Activity Hazard Analysis was prepared prior to the inspections to ensure the safety of all in the area.
