Westinghouse Fire Hazard Analysis

Madison, PA

Project Objective

The Westinghouse Churchill Laboratories and Waltz Mill Service Center in Pennsylvania required the development of a fire hazard analysis (FHA) to determine the level of fire risk and assess the present condition of fire protection features throughout the building.

Unique Project Features

A major portion of the project was developing design based fire scenarios for each of the facilities. These scenarios became the basis for performance based application of fire protection systems in the facility and were supported by quantitative calculations to determine the level of fire growth.

Encorus Group Solution

Encorus Group prepared a FHA for Westinghouse Churchill Laboratories and Waltz Mill Service Center based on the criteria developed by NFPA 801, Fire Protection for Facilities Handling Radioactive Material. This also included a full life safety assessment which was based on the International Building and Fire code.

Specific Project Tasks

  • Preparation of a fire hazard analysis (FHA)
  • Full life safety assessment
