SUNY Upstate Medical University – Cancer Center
Project Objective
The five-story Cancer Center project, located in the heart of the University Medical Campus, is a fit-out of existing shell space of the 4th and 5th floors of an occupied facility. Encorus was part of the commissioning team led by Wendel. The 4th floor was retrofitted to be an ambulatory center with exam room and support spaces. The 5th floor renovations included the laboratory and support spaces for clinical pathology. The project included partial improvements to the 2nd floor.
Unique Project Features
Construction, which cannot interfere with the functioning of the lower floors, was phased due to limited staging areas and the need to work around existing HVAC systems. Special attention was dedicated to the handling and temporary storage of construction waste and materials, as well as the separation of occupied and construction spaces. Encorus Group was contracted to fulfill IAQ requirements in accordance with LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovations, specifically Credit 3.2
Encorus Group Solution
Encorus Group reviewed the Construction IAQ Management Plan and conducted multiple site observation visits to ensure compliance of the plan. In addition, Sienna conducted air quality testing for formaldehyde, 4-phenylcyclohexene, volatile organic compounds, respirable dust, and carbon monoxide.
