Valley Forge National Historic Park
Project Objective
Valley Forge National Historical Park encompasses more than 3,500 acres of nationally significant historic landscapes, structures, monuments, and cultural resources. As part of an ongoing effort to preserve and enhance the park’s historic assets, the National Park Service initiated a comprehensive program to stabilize, rehabilitate, and prepare numerous buildings for future occupancy and leasing opportunities.
The project included the exterior and interior rehabilitation of multiple historic structures, installation of modern fire and intrusion detection systems, utility infrastructure improvements, pedestrian safety enhancements, restoration of cultural landscapes, and the removal of obsolete site features, including parking areas. The scope also incorporated the demolition and partial demolition of selected historic and non-historic structures and associated assets throughout the park.
Unique Project Features
This large-scale preservation initiative supports the National Park Service’s mission to protect and extend the useful life of historically significant structures while enhancing public access and visitor engagement. The project involved work across a diverse inventory of buildings, requiring careful coordination between preservation architects, environmental professionals, and construction teams to balance modernization efforts with historic preservation requirements.
The rehabilitation of these structures will allow the National Park Service to place underutilized facilities back into productive service, creating new opportunities for occupancy while preserving the character and integrity of one of America’s most important historic sites.
