If you’re a skier or snowboarder, you know how important the ski lift is to the operation of the slopes. In order to ensure the safety of those using and operating the lift, as well as people on the ground, it is vital that ski lift components are inspected each year. Annual inspection and testing can find cracks, weak spots, and potential failure points before anyone gets hurt, and eliminate downtime for the ski resort.
Encorus Group technicians travelled to ski resorts including Kissing Bridge, Peek-n-Peak, Holiday Valley, Holimont, and Cockaigne over the off-season to perform on-site non-destructive testing on ski lift components. With the winter season in full force and the ski lifts operating daily for hundreds of guests, it is vital Encorus does these inspections to ensure visitors’ safety.
Lift grip inspections were conducted using wet fluorescent method testing. A field indicator was used to assure defect orientation and field strength. Chair hangers were inspected using a dry powder method of magnetic particle inspection. Any component not found to be within the manufacturer’s acceptance criteria was placed out of service. As the snow continues to fall into February and March, you can be sure that the lifts are safe for you when visiting your favorite local ski resorts.
