New and Relocated Production Lines

Project Objective

The client for this project is a large industrial chemical manufacturer. The client planned to install a new production line and to relocate a second line. Encorus was contracted to design the layout and process for these lines. The new line included a double-drum dryer, a reactor, and a conveyor line. The relocated line included 3 reactors, a dryer, a centrifuge, and a conveyor.

Unique Project Features

  • Systems had to be designed to fit in a tight space without compromising process flow.
  • Encorus had to analyze the existing concrete floor capacity to ensure that it was sufficient to support the dryer, reactor and conveyor.
  • Encorus’ electrical designs had to be explosion-proof to account for the reactor room’s rating as Class II, Division 1, Group G hazardous location.

Encorus Group Solution

Encorus produced engineering drawings and calculations for use in bidding this project to fabricators and installation contractors. Most notable was the electrical power work to size a new transformer connection, doubling the plant’s power. A new external roll up door and a jib crane were sized and located to assist with maintenance on the drum dryer and reactor. Designs were provided to strengthen the concrete floor to support the new equipment. Encorus architects completed access and egress reviews, modifying doors and walls as required to meet code. Encorus engineers provided support both on site and virtually throughout construction and commissioning. This in person support was critical to the electrical power upgrades and meetings with the utility.

Specific Project Tasks

  • Provide equipment layouts
  • Engineer and design the new and relocated processes
  • Perform structural analysis and provide calculations for new equipment
  • Work with client and utility to design new power feed
  • Analyze the new area and systems to meet hazardous area requirements
