Tank 250 – Construction Surveillance

Project Objective

The goal of this project was to oversee the fabrication of Tank 250 to ensure that it is compliant with the associated construction code and that the quality of the work was acceptable.

Unique Project Features

Tank 250 is a 5-million-gallon petroleum storage tank with a diameter of 110 feet and a height of 72 feet with an internal floating roof. It was constructed as per the American Petroleum Institute standard 650 and is also registered with the State of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). This was a new construction project from the foundation up. The tank was built over the course of approximately 6 months.

Encorus Group Solution

The project schedule required contractor oversight/surveillance on a 6-day per week – 10 hours per day schedule. Encorus had the flexibility to cover the surveillance with two separate inspectors throughout the project providing both PA DEP required coverage as well as overall construction surveillance. Activities included verification of welder qualifications and material quality, visual inspections of welding performed, review and/or witness all nondestructive testing performed and final hydrostatic testing. Daily surveillance activity reports were provided to the customer.
