Mary Padasak has been an Environmental Engineer at Encorus Group since 2009. She works on stormwater design and permitting, bulk storage permitting, SEQR, and most recently, geotechnical assistance including Phase 1 reports, groundwater sampling, and contaminated soils removal. Mary’s role in the company is very diverse and she covers a wide range of projects. She has recently worked on projects including the North Country Energy Storage Project, headed by the New York Power Authority, for stormwater design of a renewable energy battery storage area, as well as petroleum-contaminated soil removal for a building addition to a local retailer.
Mary graduated from Springville-Griffith Institute, then went on to earn a BS in Environmental Science and Policy / Biology from Clarkson University. Her long standing love of the environment and the policies that protect it led to her pursuing it as a career. Mary’s family is the backbone of her passion for the environment, but her college professors are what gave her a direction for that passion. They focused in on environmental law, policy, and science in a way that tied into the engineering field seamlessly. Robert J. Runge II, founder of the company that grew into Encorus Group, is credited with giving Mary her big break and taking her from a civil engineering technician to an environmental policy expert. His unending support has allowed her to thrive in her field.
Mary still lives in Springville with her son. They both enjoy camping in the summer and outdoor sports year round. She is also very active on the local boards of professional organizations, including New York Water Environment Association, and Air & Waste Management Association, and charities including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Springville Kiwanis.
When asked what she likes about her role at Encorus, Mary says that she loves to work here because of the family like atmosphere. Employees here know each other and care about one another over more than just the design work. Mary continues, “With our cook-off competitions, family gatherings, and fun challenges, you really get the sense that you are an important person to Encorus, not just a member of a team. I haven’t seen any other company culture come close to what Encorus has to offer.”
